Research Shows Cell Phone Use May Cure Alzheimer’s
In perhaps the most bizarre Alzheimer’s research result I’ve read in a long time, scientists at the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center of the University of South Florida bombarded mice with two hours a day of cell phone-like electromagnetic waves for several months.
Mice genetically altered to develop Alzheimer’s disease, did not develop it. Older mice already showing symptoms of degenerative brain disease were effectively cured, exhibiting better mental functioning than normal mice the same age.
On autopsy, no beta amyloid plaques were found in the mice which had been exposed to the cell phone waves. This research was reported in the January 6, 2006 Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Blueberries Help Preserve Brain Function
It has long been known that oxidative stress contributes to the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Antioxidant supplements and high-antioxidant foods are recommended to combat many degenerative conditions associated with aging, including Alzheimer’s disease.
The USDA list of high-ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) foods starts with prunes (5570), raisins (2830), blueberries (2400), blackberries (2036) and strawberries (1540) per 100 gram serving. The USDA also recommends you eat foods containing at least 3000 ORAC units a day. However, the more you can fit into your diet, the better.
If you want to keep your weight down, blueberries, blackberries and strawberries would be better choices than prunes or raisins. The calorie counts for a one cup serving of each is: prunes (408); raisins (493); blueberries (83); blackberries (62); and strawberries (49).
