Comparison of Aveeno Ageless Vitality Elasticity Recharging System to Neutrogena Clinical Lifting Wrinkle Treatment

After reviewing Neutrogena’s two-part product for Recharging Your Skin, I promised to review the Aveeno Ageless Vitality Elasticity Recharging System for night.

In the meantime, I also read this interesting information on the topic at Cosmetics Cop Paula Begoun’s Beautypedia site.

"This is an emerging science, so I don't believe anyone knows for certain yet how important bioelectricity is in skin aging," says researcher and dermatologist David McDaniel, MD, director of the Institute of Anti-Aging Research in Virginia Beach, Virginia. "J&J has done some interesting research on bioelectricity as one ages, but it takes many years for the full impact of science like this to find its place,” he says. For example, McDaniel explains, it took decades for the full potential of retinoids and SPF to be recognized."

Except for lacking broad spectrum sun protection (one of the things I liked most about the Neutrogena version) because it’s a night treatment system, the two products are quite similar.

Aveeno’s step 1, which is called Biomineral Concentrate has exactly he same ingredients in the same order as Neutrogena’s first step Ion2 Complex. It’s a nice silky gel.

Aveeno’s step 2, Restorative Night Cream, is a rich creamy paraben-free formula with a good antioxidant cocktail of Tocopheryl Acetate and Blackberry Leaf Extract.

Restorative Night Cream also contains Dill Extract, which one study has indicated may have elastin-promoting power, and Glycolic Acid for exfoliation. This is a very nice night cream; but I would like it better if it contained cell-communicating ingredients like cosmeceutical peptides or Niacinimide.

The Aveeno kit costs about 25% less than the Neutrogena one I bought. You get a full ounce of cream (compared to ½ ounce with Neutrogena). However, you get less of the silky serum (10 ml Aveeno vs. 14 ml Neutrogena).
