The Complexities of Anti-Aging Skin Care

Hello,

I am 20 years old. I have periodic acne breakouts and some acne marks (not that dark) but I would like to get rid of them.

I have used Proactiv. It worked before; but even when I used it, I still got breakouts. As well, my marks have not faded.

And I would like to start an anti-aging preventative routine.

So what should I start using?

I know SPFs are a big deal so which ones? And what vitamins should I be searching for to prevent wrinkles?

Hi Yari,

You may find some help in this article on
PIH and Acne Scarring.

Since
Proactive has worked for you, don’t give up on it. You need to be diligent and patient with any acne treatment plan.

A dermatologist can offer stronger treatments – both medications to keep acne at bay and topical procedures to erase the marks left behind.

As for anti-aging and prevention, you need to be especially careful of some topical products with anti-aging ingredients, since most are formulated for very dry skin. Here’s an article I wrote about
Anti-Aging Products for Oily Skin.

You’re correct that sun protection is step numero uno to keep skin young looking. But it’s not just SPF which you need. SPF protects skin from the sun’s Burning UVB rays. You also need something to protect against the Aging UVA rays. Read about
Broad Spectrum Sun Protection here.

In your diet, your supplements, and your topical products, get as many antioxidants as you can. For diet that means brightly colored fruits and vegetables. Natural antioxidants found in food are complete and your best choice for protecting against free radical damage. Read more
here.

Finally, for an overview skin anti-aging plan for life, please read my article titled
