A few little creations

Still thinking of what my next abstract painting will be so in order not to lose practice with my paintbrushes I continue making the little ones.

I've become a night owl, something I never expected since I love light. But the day brings so much noise and turmoil and distractions due to responsibilities that I can only create at night now when all is silence.

During the day I continue decorating the house and gardening, reading "My Antonia" and re-reading "The House of the Spirits" which I love all over again and watching Masterpiece Theatre. I must get "Miss Potter", Oh how I loved that movie. I could easily be her, live in that cottage she was able to buy with her earnings from the books she illustrated and wrote.

Almost finished with the Art Journal

Four more pages to go and a few finishing touches including the covers and I will have finished my Art Journal. 80+ pages of non-stop arduous two and half months. I am thrilled.

I will take a few days off to just read and listen to music, take walks and ponder on what my next art adventure will be. I DO SO WANT to try my hand at a second canvas. But I need to find that voice, that only "me" voice.

My Brain is in Overdrive

Oh how I long for a whole month with myself, by my myself and for myself. The closest I've come to relaxation was the camping trip to Los Padres National Forest with my brother's side of the family a few weeks ago. And parts of the trip up to Pleasanton.

What I need is a good dose of Nature, fresh air, the breeze waving through the trees, picking wildflowers, cooking outdoors, feeling free.

I think the Journal has taken alot out of me. Almost eighty pages. Now that I look back, it's a wonder that I am about to complete it. I could have taken it slower, but I tend to move towards other things and feared it would lie on my art table with half a heartbeat and ultimately die from oblivion. So I committed to it. It's been almost two full months of nothing but the journal pages, hardly any sewing, a few ATCS in between and literally no new creations for my etsy shop.

Yet I don't regret it. I am now working on the cover. It will be three dimensional and have some found objects on it.

I have managed to read and follow some of my favorite blogs and sellers and recently purchased a poetry book titled "Summer Ghosts" by Cathy Cullis Cathy Cullis What a breath of fresh air. She does everything with so much grace and imbues her art with such subtlety. To think I was one of her first followers on etsy. Almost like it was meant to be-the finding of her.

At night I get to read and watch a few good movies, luckily ran into a great Pavarotti documentary on PBS last night which I think I will get for Bernardita's birthday since she loves opera so much. Reading Isabel Allende's latest Memoir and just cracking up with her usual humour and anecdotes. Her photo album on her blog is an example of this is Isabelallende I have probably read all her books at this point except the children's trilogy.

I must slow down. My voracious spirit must stop and process now and defragment lest it become nebulous clusters of mush.

Visual Addiction

Now you know why I'm an Artist. EVERYTHING can be seen in a much better light when you see them through the artist's prism. And now that we have the net, we can virtually go to a modern museum anytime, anywhere. I love it.

....and the beat goes on......

Something's in the air. Changes, Hope with capital letters. I feel it in the streets, when I go to an eatery and see people coming alive again. Our country needs it so deperately=the human element after a diseased addiction to consumption and a rancid philosophy of greed versus deed.
Bernardita came to spend the weekend. Because of the gas crisis she decided to take the train. How refreshing, plus I have an Amtrak station so close to home. And then we hopped in my car and went everywhere, did everything we could in three days (Garage sales, Thrift Stores,
Bookstore, Japanese Restaurant, back to bookstore for Coffee and Carrot Cake, Craft Store, Mexican restaurant, then to my bed where we listened to oldies on the cassette player (Raul Di Blasio) and got all nostalgic about Chile and decided to drink to it. Salud.

LIFE IS GOOD. And tomorrow will be even better since I finally get my bottom teeth. It has taken two years of surgeries and casts and molds and finally they will be in for good tomorrow. I am so happy. I will eat cashew nuts at last.

It's getting better all the time

So what I have been up to? Something weird is happening, I have this voracious appetite and have been eating more than I usually do. I'm hungry all the time, unusual for me who always eats bird-sized meals. I sure hope it doesn't settle in all the wrong places.

Well, went for the interview yesterday and in two weeks I will know if I have been selected for round 2 which would mean another interview with the Board of Directors. I am crossing my fingers, I really want this job. It is perfect for me.

Thanks to www.jperegrineart.typepad.com/ I have picked up my art journal again and have been painting and collaging away. It is so challenging to see other people's work. It makes you say, I CAN DO THAT. My room, being so cluttered, has suffered with all the papers and paints spread out over the floor but it's been worth it. I really love some of the things that have resulted. I guess it's OK to give myself a pat on the back, isn't it?

Letters from Claudia and Peter and Lucy and Sourdoughs #7 with Richard keep me happy. Scott is back from Chile and that makes him happy.

Martin and Andrea are planning a camping trip in about two weeks and I so want to come. I haven't gone camping in years. Apparently Erika and Tyler and other members of the family will be coming so it will be fun.

Looking Back at the Year

As I look back at the year and just in case I feel I didn't accomplish enough, here are a few of the finished products.
