a few more stitches and a work in progress
shared at Faded Charm

Friday, October 22, 2010

my sewing machine has been working non stop this past week conjuring up new variations to my newest obsession: garlands.  i love taking a theme and making it my own.  loving denim, i thought i'd try something with that in blue and white, something a bit more modern and simple.  four more banner pieces arose.  then i combined them with the white ones on the ribbon and i just love how it looks.

but the week has had other amazing surprises in between of which i will put together a very special post in the days to follow.

WIP

Saturday, April 24, 2010

it is suddenly cold, very cold here in santiago de chile and i seek refuge.  refuge from responsibility in order to do what i really like. i spent most of the day putting together a fabric pillow in order to lighten things up here in this barren apartment.  somehow the reds and oranges were the right colors amid the impending gloom of winter, a recurring season which i have yet to decipher.  i am not particularly drawn to winter, those early nights, darkness more than light and cold.  so imbuing my life with color.  i am so happy with the results of this spontaneous, freehand applique pillow, all elements speaking of my will.for light. it is the first element of change and future i have created fully since my mother left me.

LOVE NEVER DIES FABRIC BOOK Still in Progress

i am so happy at how this fabric book cover is turning out. More so since i have worked only with findings around my mother's home since when I travelled I didn't bring very much with me, only my large case of embroidery threads. I went out and bought the background fabric ( expensive since it is French) but all the pther details are a twist of the imagination with scarce materials. The back is turning out beautifully too, just haven't finished the cross stitch which is minute. Will post more pictures as the week progresses.
