Caring for Dry Skin

Dry skin can be a challenge both to care for and to live with. Your skin may become flaky at times or even become red and irritated. Dozens of over-the-counter products promise to end the cycle of dreaded dry skin once and for all, but sometimes those miracle cures just can’t follow through on the performance.

There is no need for you to be stuck with dry skin, though, and there are simple changes you can make in your skin care routine as well as your daily life that will have a big impact on the condition and health of your skin. Why live with dry, irritated skin any longer? Make a few changes in your routine and watch as your skin becomes vibrant and healthy in a matter of a few weeks.

Dry skin results from a lack of sebum or oil production. Sebum is made within the skin cells and is vital to having healthy, elastic skin. Since dry skin does not make enough oil, you will need to replace it both from the inside and outside.

Begin addressing the outside issue by finding a moisturizing cream that is rich but not overly heavy. Creams that include soothing ingredients like chamomile and aloe vera are excellent for handling dryness and redness at the same time.

Now you should consider the inside treatment – take a good hard look at your diet and determine exactly how healthy it is. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and needs to be nourished just like every other body part. The best supplements for your skin include Omega-3 oils (which contain vital components for smooth skin), Vitamin E, and a complex B vitamin. Providing your skin with the proper nourishment is one of the best ways to improve your dry skin.

Nourishing dry skin both inside and out is the best approach to healing. When your skin has the necessary nutrients and can use them in cell repair and rebuilding, the outside appearance will improve exponentially. You even get a nice bonus through improved health and body function – that’s multi-tasking at its best.

Also, check those great skin care products and enjoy a beautiful and young looking skin.

Acne - More Great Tips

Tip 5 – Do not touch your facial skin too often! The bacteria that causes acne (Propionibacterium acnes) is a normal resident of your skin. It does not however lead to acne until it is trapped inside the hair follicle. You should therefore avoid tpuching your face extensively, including resting your chin in your hands! It can drive the bacteria into pores where it can begin its dirty work and cause acne.

Tip 6 – Remember to take a shower after working out. Your skin generates heat when you exercise. The heat and the moisture are trapped against your skin until you shower off. Therefore remember to take a shower as soon as you can as the heat and moisture are the perfect breeding ground for acne bacteria.

Cream and Lotion for Dry Skin

There are lots of cosmetics available on the market these days. It is sometimes very difficult to decide which cream will be best for your skin. There are plenty great creams and lotions available, but there are also products that will do more harm than good. It is however very difficult, almost impossible, to know whether the particular cream or lotion is good for your skin, before actually trying it.

The reason why some creams are harmful to your skin is quite simple. All the creams and lotions consist of lots of chemicals which might cause allergic reactions.
I would therefore suggest you use natural creams and lotions. But how do you know whether the cream or lotion is 100% natural? You can never be sure unless…you prepare it yourself!

Below are two recipes for a cream and a lotion which you can prepare at home. They are 100% natural and, therefore, can’t harm your skin.

1. Honey Cold Cream for Dry Skin

You will need ¼ cup of honey, ¼ cup of vegetable shortening, 1 tablespoon of grounded almonds, 1 teaspoon of lecithin, 2 tablespoons of bee pollen, 1 egg yolk (at room temperature) and 1 teaspoon of rosewater or cologne water. Once you prepared all the ingredients it is time to mix them well.

You will notice that the cream has a bit of grainy and oily texture and in addition to using it as a cold cream it can also be used for sunburns and as conditioner to the hands before doing outside work. The above amount of ingredients will make about ¾ cup of the cream.

2. Dry Skin lotion

Ingredients needed: 1/8 teaspoon of Borax, ¼ c. of distilled water, ½ c. of fractionated coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of grated beeswax, 1 teaspoon of scent (add it slowly to adjust the scent of the lotion to your liking), 1/8 teaspoon of lecithin, ½ c. Aloe Vera Gel.

Combine borax and water and heat them almost to boiling. In a meantime, in another pan mix beeswax with oil and heat till the wax is melted. Now, very slowly add borax/water mixture to oil/beeswax mixture stirring briskly. For stirring you can use either small wire whisk or a handblender. Add scent during whisking (again, do it slowly) and leave to cool to room temperature. Once the lotion reached room temperature, it is time to add Aloe Vera Gel and whisk, so it is fully mixed with the lotion. Bottle and you have just made yourself a great, 100% natural lotion.

Milk for Beautiful Skin

Milk has been used for ages as a skin care product. Milk has been so popular because of its great nourishing properties. It contains sugars, natural pigments and minerals. Moreover, lots of known enzymes and vitamins can be found in milk. Also, milk fat is also very useful as it is rich in lecithin, vitamins and unsaturated fatty acids.

The easiest way to use milk is by washing your face with it. Wash your face regularly and you will see the results very soon. Your wrinkles will start disappearing, and your facial skin will become lighter, softer and more elastic.

Milk products contain emulsified oils, proteins, milk acid and fat soluble vitamins. They are easily digestible by your skin, soften and smoothen your skin and improve metabolism and blood circulation.

Milk masks are great for your skin yet they are very easy to prepare.

Mix cottage cheese, milk, carrot juice and olive oil (all 1:1) and you have just made yourself a multipurpose nourishing mask.

If you would like to bleach your freckles and pigmented spots there is another great milk mask for it. Mix ¼ glass of sour milk and one spoon of oatmeal to make a paste. Place it between two layers of cheesecloth and put on your face. In addition to the above benefits, this mask is also great for greasy skin.

You can also mix 3 teaspoons of cottage cheese and 1 teaspoon of honey to prepare a mask that will not only bleach your skin, but will also moisten and nourish it.

There is also a great mask for dry and fading skin. Mix 1 tablespoon of cottage cheese, 2 tablespoons of sour cream and 1 teaspoon of cookery salt. Blend the ingredients and apply the mask on your face for about 10-15 minutes, twice a week.

To smooth out harsh and dry skin you can use green peas flour and milk mask. Simply mix 2 tablespoons of flour with 2 tablespoon of milk whey and put on your face till it dries out.

If you are over 40 years old then you should try cottage cheese mask. Mix 2 tablespoons of cottage cheese with 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil and juice from a half of orange. This is a great mask for mature skin! Make sure you try it!

VITAMINS FOR A BEAUTIFUL OUTLAY

Vitamins are absolutely essential for the normal functioning of the body. The skin is one organ which is by far the most affected by the incorrect dosage of vitamins. There are millions of chemical reactions happening in the body which have harmful free radicals as by products. These show their effect on the skin directly. The vitamins act as anti oxidants which neutralize these and therefore help protect the overall health and vitality of the skin. If the vitamins are not adequately provided to the skin cells they may start to malfunction and may eventually die. Pre mature death of the skin cells may lead to appearance of wrinkles way before the right age and thus cause pre ageing of the skin.

Here is guide to the different types of vitamins which are absolutely essential for the skin and how to take them:

VITAMIN A

Vitamin A has many skin correcting features. This kind is meant to be incorporated in the body externally only. There are many sources in our normal daily diet that complete the requirement of vitamin A in the body. One must also be careful not to take it in an overdose i.e. more than 5000 medical units in a day as this will do more harm than good.
Retinoic acid is a product derived from Vitamin A only and is a vital constituent of many anti ageing creams in the market. This ingredient has the special property of reducing the wrinkles and also opens up the pores in the skin, apart from being an effective cure for acne and other skin diseases.

VITAMIN B2

The daily limit of the dosage is around 100-300 mg. This is to be taken internally and is found to be abundant in sources such as milk, liver, green leafy vegetables, cheese and eggs. Riboflavin is another name for this kind of vitamin.

VITAMIN C

This is a wonder vitamin. It has many beneficial functions in the body one of which is maintaining a healthy skin. It is one of the best anti oxidants for neutralizing the effect of free radicals. Also this is essential for uninterrupted production of collagen, a protein which is fundamental for keeping the elasticity of the skin intact. The limit to the intake of this wonder vitamin is 500-2000 mg and is usually found in large quantities in citrus fruits and yellow vegetables.

VITAMIN E

This micro nutrient has been proved to be very effective against the harmful effects of the sun’s rays on the skin. It also helps to mitigate the effects of acne rashes. In addition to this, Vitamin E also has anti-ageing qualities as it considerably reduces wrinkles. This kind can be taken both internally and externally. 150 mg is the limit to the dosage.

Nature is a storehouse of miracles which are in the form of natural products such as the various extracts from fruits and vegetables. These obtained from nature in the most natural way, function as the perfect ingredients for skin care and especially skin whitening. There are many skin care products in the market which are artificial creations and contain chemicals that have harmful side effects accompanying their usage. In fact most of the brands and companies offering these products have now adopted a “back to nature” strategy to make their products safer and more effective for widespread use. The skin just like other organs is a gift of nature and should be looked after in the most natural fashion. Here is a guide to the different fruits and vegetables which help you in your skin care practice:

LEMON

Lemon has become a wonder fruit. The juice of the lemon is a must for a healthy scalp skin of the head. The lemon extract is used as an essential ingredient in many shampoos and skin creams. Apart from curing dandruff it also help to reduce melanin content in the skin and whiten it.

This is obtained from roses of course and is an excellent accessory ingredient to be used with your face pack. It re-moisturizes the skin and helps restore its vitality. Rose water can also be used directly to rejuvenate the skin and cleanse it.

SPINACH

Spinach is full of essential proteins and minerals which help make the skin cells gain more strength and stand up against foreign attack such as acne, disposition and other types of blemishes.

CUCUMBER

This is one of the immense water bearing fruits. The moisture content in the fruit is very effective against mitigating the effect of dark circles under the eyes. Peel grate and squeeze out the juice of the cucumber, mix it with rose water or even glycerin and then apply it on the face for 10 - 15minutes. The mixture forms a mask over the face and is effective in curing skin burns.

EGGS

These are abundant in protein content and thus a multiple purposes of maintaining the health of the skin and the hair on the body. A paste can be created by mixing the egg content with oil and honey. This may applied on the face for a few minutes and then peeled off. The facial hair stays in perfect shape.

APPLES AND GRAPES

These fruit products are excellent for maintaining the glow and the apt moisture content of the skin, especially grape juice. An apple a day is really effective for having a healthy skin too. Green apple contents can keep away the oily shine of the face.
