French of the Day and swap parcel!

Look at these lovely polishes I got in a swap parcel from a lovely American lady today!! Oh, possibly the best range of colours I've seen a while! And look at the layering of the week - it's my new Claires "Magic" with a coat of Urban Decay "ID". Divine! :)

Those are I have no idea why I pulled out this gimmicky strawberry-scented French manicure set from Elegant Touch yesterday but I did :) As usual I couldn't be bothered with the tip guides that came with the set, I really have to start using them when I do French manicures on myself - this is a right botched job. Never mind. The packaging says it is strawberry fragranced and it to does smell weirdly of fake fruit; more like those scratch n' sniff stickers you got in the 80's than strawberries however. This farse will come off tomorrow and I'll slick on the astounding Sinful Color "Mint Apple" instead to accentuate my new NW3 by Hobbs leather cuff on Monday :)

NOTD: New York Color "207A"

I felt like a shimmering bright pink tonight, but this is too sheer to put on by itself - this is 2 coats over a coat of Rimmel 60sec "Funtime Fuschia" to bright up the opacity. Juicy and delightful indeed! :) It has a stronger blue flash than the photo shows. I added some cute little decals because I was waiting for my turn on the laptop.

This is a bit bubbly and runny but I am hoping it lives through til Sunday!

LAYERING: "MIdnight Sky"

This is my NOTD. I am loving the snow, and wanted to celebrate with a festive layering! I started off with 1 coat of Orly "Velvet Rope" over Sally Hansen Nail Quencher base coat. It is a nice dark purple with silver glitter. Due to getting engrossed in the "new" Star Trek movie I forgot to take photos, sorry. It is ultra-slow to dry however, that I noticed after scuffing one nail.

Then I slapped on two coats of the insanely lovely Pure Ice "Cheatin", a purple and red glitter. See bottom photo. Shame it didn't show through more! One day I will wear this as my NOTD over Bloom "Josephine", I have a feeling that would look awesome :)

I then put on 1 final coat of Nfu-Oh "#53". Man, I love those Nfu-Ohs flakey nail polishes, they're probably the awesomest nail polishes in the Universe :)

I call this "Midnight Sky". Not to be compared to the divine OPI "Merry Midnight", which I have asked Santa for :) I've been good most of the year so I am hoping he is listening...

NOTD: Pure Ice "Heartbreaker"

I tried layering it over a dark navy creme, which was nice, but I throught I should try over a turquoise. I chose Color Club "Bizerk Turq" to layer this and it looks fantastic - like "Heartbreaker" SHOULD look if it wasn't so sheer :) But it's impossible to photograph the damn thing!!! Look to the bottle colour if you want to see how my mani really looks like :)

This is 2 coats Color Club with 3 coats of "Heartbreaker". The darker one is 1 coat of Nails Inc "Hanover Street" with 2 coats "Heartbreaker".

Also this is the saffron buns I baked for St Lucy's Day on Sunday :) They're yum-my if I say so myself! Now I must get that Lush Butterball bath ballistic into the bath and chill out - it's been a rather long day... :)

NOTD: Sinful "Nail Junkie" layering

I love the name of this supremely sparkly teal polish! :) It is a bit sheer so I decided to layer over GOSH "Blue Monday". However, "Blue Monday" was also quite sheer to my dismay; I had to work 2 thick coats of it under "Nail Junkie". "Nail Junkie" is one coat only. Anyway it's hard to capture the super-sparkly nature of this layered manicure! I must've take 50 pics of each stage, but only these 2 photos turned out OK! This is with Sally Hansen MegaShine top coat and Nail Quencher base coat.

Please excuse the dry cuticles, I am back doing DIY and painting so my hands are incredibly dry at the moment, and I have two broken nails on my right hand. Oh well. Soon I will have everything done! :)

Oh yeah I meant to say - Essie "Angora Cardi" was on and looked great until Saturday when I started the DIY. Thats 5 days, people. I *love* "Angora Cardi" :D

NOTD - Wet 'n' Wild Wild Orchid

I got this beauty in a swap from America recently and I have been dying to try it out :) It's a bit sheer so I decided to layer it over two coats of Nails Inc "Miami Purple". And this is the result. I should have chosen a different background colour other than "Miami Purple" as "Wild Orchid" is a cool colour so perhaps next time I will go for OPI "Purple with a purpose", I think. Anyway, the polish is very nice and not nearly as holographic and sparkly in the picture as it is in real life! This is definitely a winner for me :) I can't get these polishes where I am in the UK so it's really nice to be able to swap for them!

NOTD: Urban Decay "ID" over Rimmel 60sec "Silver Bullet"

I once tried "Silver Bullet" on it's own and I hated it. It's really stark white metallic, and it just didn't go with my skintone. So last night after discovering that my precious "Jo" was peeling off the nail that peels (grrrrr.....) I decided I was going to put on one of my all-time favourite polishes, Urban Decay "ID". And once again I will lament the passing of this nail polish line. Why??..

Anyway, I digress. I slapped on Nailtek Foundation II, 2 coats of "Silver Bullet" then followed by 3 coats of "ID". The end result was so beautiful it almost made me cry :) The bright white metallic base seems to bring out a sparkle that you won't get with "ID" alone, the gold shimmers like a thousand little pieces of gold. It's simply awesome, and I think that this combo will probably make it's way to my toes tonight :)

Nail Polish Layering

I am still loving Zoya "Jo" but that hasn't stopped me playing about with nail polish. On the left is 2 coats of Zoya "Colbie" and then 1 coat of China Glaze "Ruby Pumps". On the right is 2 coats of Revlon "Steel her heart" topped with 1 coat of China Glaze "Tinsel". Sparkle-tastic! :)

NOTD: SH Nail Prisms "Amber Ruby" over Nails Inc "Victoria"

I am still in awe over the Sally Hansen Nail Prisms "Amber Ruby". It is just so deliciously dark duochromey and firey. Like a burning sunset sky or autumn leaves... This is B/C then 2 coats of Nails Inc. "Victoria", a nearly black burgundy creme. Then 2 coats of Sally Hansen Nail Prisms "Amber Ruby" and Poshe T/C. It's really hard to capture the great duochrome in this polish but it goes from a deep burgundy to a amber glow in different lights.

NOTD - China Glaze "Ruby Pumps" with Nfu-Oh #44

This photo is the best of a rubbish bunch, you just can't capture the glowing intense heat of this polish! This is 1 coat RP, then 1 coat Nfu-Oh then 1 coat of Seche Vite. It's a shiny, glittery awesome red! :) It's like hot glowing lava...

Nfu-Oh Bonanza Part 1

I went a little overboard and did quite a bit of layering and swatching for my Nfu-Ohs. First for a bit of layering over black.

From left: #45, #49, #53, #56 and #59

These are the Nfu-Oh colours layered over other colours (1 layer each):

6: #53 over Barry M 292 (a true dark navy shimmer)

7: #53 over Essie Aruba Blue (a bright blue shimmer)

8: #49 over Rimmel 60 sec 829 Big Night Out (a metallic dark peach)

9: #56 over Nails Inc. Ascot (a dark forest green shimmer)

10: #59 over Barry M 273 (a vampy dark cerise creme)

The first colour I tried on my nails was the fiery #45, I think it is an absolute stunner. Application is a bit goopy, but it does dry quite quickly. But I admit to dabbing the brush to deposit some glitter flakes on a few nails.. Below is the pic of it (1 coat Seche Clear, 2 coats #45, 1 coat Seche Vite; tropical aquarium lighting). I must have taken about 20 pics of this, but nothing I did will ever capture the sparkly and glowing goodness of this polish! This is the best one.

I will post more swatches of these amazing polishes during the coming week. I am trying not to display such nail polish attention deficit syndrome but I am sooo keen to try them all!! :)

Nail-Of-The-Day #2

This is one of my favourite nail combos - 2 coats of OPI "Purple with a purpose" with a coat of Mavala "Capella". Its one of those hard to photograph polishes with big flaky glitter. It moves from purple to pink through to a metallic beetle green, it's very pretty :)
