LAYERING: "MIdnight Sky"

This is my NOTD. I am loving the snow, and wanted to celebrate with a festive layering! I started off with 1 coat of Orly "Velvet Rope" over Sally Hansen Nail Quencher base coat. It is a nice dark purple with silver glitter. Due to getting engrossed in the "new" Star Trek movie I forgot to take photos, sorry. It is ultra-slow to dry however, that I noticed after scuffing one nail.

Then I slapped on two coats of the insanely lovely Pure Ice "Cheatin", a purple and red glitter. See bottom photo. Shame it didn't show through more! One day I will wear this as my NOTD over Bloom "Josephine", I have a feeling that would look awesome :)

I then put on 1 final coat of Nfu-Oh "#53". Man, I love those Nfu-Ohs flakey nail polishes, they're probably the awesomest nail polishes in the Universe :)

I call this "Midnight Sky". Not to be compared to the divine OPI "Merry Midnight", which I have asked Santa for :) I've been good most of the year so I am hoping he is listening...

ANNIVERSARY: My 300th Post!!

Hello 300 mark!

It only seems like yesterday I started blogging. Thank you to all the wonderful (and Zeke the evil beech too!) people who stop past and comment on my ramblings all the time, you guys rock! :)

So tonight I made an extra-special manicure for my 300th Post - China Glaze "Wagon Trail" with Nfu-Oh #49 over it. It has a real depth to it but unfortunately my special spot was not so useful for picking up the shimmer and shine.

NOTD: Nfu-Oh Shiny Opals #59

All hail Nfu-Oh...

This is nail polish meant to be worshipped - from the formula and the colour range through the long wear and, last but not least, the sexy bottle design. This is #59 from the Shiny Opal's range or so-called "flakies" - polishes that have little flakes of glitter. The acquisition of the Nfu-Oh's I have were the most expensive so far in my nail fanaticism. I imported them all the way from New Zealand. And I worship them.

This is #59 over Jessica "Bazaar", a dark red creme not dissimilar to MAC "Rougemarie". I always have a hard time capturing the flakies - they are very duochromic and this one shifts from gold through green to blue. The base is a luscious jelly berry colour. This is 1 coat "Bazaar" and 2 coats of #59 (and some extra "dropping" of flakes onto the nail) topped off with a generous helping of Sally Hansen MegaShine to lock in the sparkle!

The beauty of the flakies is that they dry almost flat, so none of the knobbly manicure stuff you can get with some glitters with large particles. I have 3 different brands of flakies; Mavala, GOSH and Nfu-Oh and by far the Nfu-Oh comes out top.

TIP OF THE DAY: When doing multi-layer manicures, patience really is a virtue. To avoid the polish bubbling by trapping solvents between the layers, make sure that you wait at least 5 min between each layer to let the solvents to evaporate. That includes any speed-dry top coat!

NOTD - China Glaze "Ruby Pumps" with Nfu-Oh #44

This photo is the best of a rubbish bunch, you just can't capture the glowing intense heat of this polish! This is 1 coat RP, then 1 coat Nfu-Oh then 1 coat of Seche Vite. It's a shiny, glittery awesome red! :) It's like hot glowing lava...

Weekend at Gleneagles

I am doused with St Tropez spray tan, eyebrows waxed and eyelashes tinted and have painted my nails for my corporate weekend away at the Gleneagles Hotel. My dress is metallic green, and so I decided to do my manicure in the awesome Nfu-Oh #56 over China Glaze Gussied-Up Green. It looks amazingly exquisite - it is the most beautiful nail polish combo I have ever worn! A 5-star manicure for a 5-star hotel :) Well, it will be 5-star after I start with my nail polish corrector :)

Nfu-Oh Bonanza Part 1

I went a little overboard and did quite a bit of layering and swatching for my Nfu-Ohs. First for a bit of layering over black.

From left: #45, #49, #53, #56 and #59

These are the Nfu-Oh colours layered over other colours (1 layer each):

From left:

6: #53 over Barry M 292 (a true dark navy shimmer)

7: #53 over Essie Aruba Blue (a bright blue shimmer)

8: #49 over Rimmel 60 sec 829 Big Night Out (a metallic dark peach)

9: #56 over Nails Inc. Ascot (a dark forest green shimmer)

10: #59 over Barry M 273 (a vampy dark cerise creme)

The first colour I tried on my nails was the fiery #45, I think it is an absolute stunner. Application is a bit goopy, but it does dry quite quickly. But I admit to dabbing the brush to deposit some glitter flakes on a few nails.. Below is the pic of it (1 coat Seche Clear, 2 coats #45, 1 coat Seche Vite; tropical aquarium lighting). I must have taken about 20 pics of this, but nothing I did will ever capture the sparkly and glowing goodness of this polish! This is the best one.

I will post more swatches of these amazing polishes during the coming week. I am trying not to display such nail polish attention deficit syndrome but I am sooo keen to try them all!! :)

The Nfu-Oh's are here!!

My Nfu-Oh's have arrived!! A bit of a mixed bag - and some unexpected colours. I was told #53 was sold out, but I got it. I also got a mysterious #59, even though I ordered #60?? But they are all gorgeous so I don't mind :)

#59 isn't as red as it looks here, for some reason, it looks more red in the photos than the berry-burgundy it is on quickly swatched nail wheels. #45 is awesome, a total raging fire of a nail polish!!

I will swatch these as soon as I can, and share some pictures of nail wheels with different colours layered underneath. Currently I know that black is the favourite for layering these but I'm going to try and match up some of my other colours for layering underneath just for something different :)
