This review and comparison of two Olay tinted moisturizers started yesterday.
You may not have heard as much about Olay Total Effects Daily UV Moisturizer + Touch of Foundation as you have about Olay Definity Color Recapture. I consider it a bit of a Cinderella story.
Total Effect is Olay’s 7-in-1 line which promises to fight skin aging in seven ways:
1. Line Minimization,
2. Nourishing Moisturization,
3. Subtle Lifting,
4. Brightening,
5. Gentle Exfoliation,
6. Pore Refinement and
7. Free Radical Defense
The Similarities
Both products are Glycerin and Dimethicone based to give a silky feel and (temporary) line-filling ability.
They both contain high levels of cell-communicating Niacinimide (Vitamin B3). Niacinimide benefits the skin in three positive ways: exfoliating dead surface cells; protecting from future UVB damage; and promoting the production of healthy new cells.
They both have a matte finish, so don’t expect a luminous glow.
The Differences
Color Recapture contains Acetyl Glucosamine, a skin identical ingredient with wound-healing properties. Niacinimide and Acetyl Glucosamine have proven to be more effective against hyperpigmentation in combination.
Total Effects has a slightly higher concentration of Niacinimide and a more complex antioxidant cocktail.
Definity is good for oily to normal skin and is available in three shades which work for all but very dark skin.
Total Effects works well for slightly oily to dry skin, but only comes in one shade which suits light to medium skin tones.
Total Effects is thicker and creamier, thus providing heavier coverage though it is still quite sheer.
