Today I'm struggling to "go with the flow". Our power went out about 7:00 last night and is still out at 3:00 p.m. All my working files are on my desktop computer. So I can't make progress on the articles and reader questions locked in there.
I'm working on my notebook computer and composing this as I go, which I hardly ever do. You normally see my articles and responses after at least a couple of rewrites.
This is a minor inconvenience in the scheme of things. I know that, yet I'm battling a feeling of frustration. This will put me even further behind than I was!
[Did I mention that our neighborhood has an electric water pressurization system? That means no water, no toilet, no shower. You get the picture.]
I fiddled around the house for a while, doing chores that don't require water or electricity. Think about it. What can you do? I cleaned a bunch of windows using glass cleaner spray and paper towels. I swept the tile floors the old fashioned way – with a broom.
On the other hand, aren't I lucky to have this battery charged notebook computer? And a roof over my head? And four dogs to sit around me and keep me warm. And a husband who (still) loves me after 42 years?
Yes, I am very, very fortunate indeed. An opportunity to count one's blessings can be a good thing.
