I'mmm baaaack ...
... to wish you all a wonderful New Year and New Decade. May you feel younger and enjoy life more every day!
I admit, I've been naughty. I took an entire week off and haven't posted anything to this blog since Christmas Day. The sabbatical was at the urging of my dear hubby, so that we could enjoy the holiday while on a visit to San Diego.
We celebrated my birthday Christmas Eve, then Christmas itself, our 42nd anniversary the 30th and finally New Year's Eve. It was a wonderful respite and some real quality time (do people still use that term?) for us.
Now we're back to the real world and I feel refreshed, renewed and rarin' to go with all the latest on everything anti-aging.
Lately I’ve been reading a lot of negative comments about the term “anti-aging” – what our website Ageless Beauty is all about. Yes, of course we all age every day. A newborn starts aging the instant it is born. So how can one be opposed to something entirely natural and inevitable?
Here’s my take on the issue. The term anti-aging evolved in a period when the word “aging” referred to the debilitating changes that take place over time. However, now scientists tell us that 60 to 90% of these debilitating changes can be avoided or significantly mitigated by healthy lifestyle choices. In other words, we can age well or we can age poorly.
If longevity experts are correct, then we’re not opposed to aging – which is inevitable – but to unhealthy aging – which is largely avoidable. Until someone comes up with a better term, I guess anti-aging will have to do. Anti-bad-aging? Anti-unhealthy-aging? Well-aging?
How about you? Do you have any ideas for a better term than anti-aging?
