Have you felt lately that we Age Warriors are viewed more and more as a burden on society? I sure have. That’s why I loved reading the CNBC headline, “Boomers Will Create New Growth Industries and New Wealth”.
All their lives, Baby Boomers were considered a major driver of the economy and of trends. They were the so-called “pig in the python”. Whatever phase of life Boomers were moving toward, marketers were out in front trying to predict what they’d need and want next. What would they be buying? What would they spend their disposable income on? Baby Boomers were a powerful force and created a bonanza for the economy.
Now that Boomers are attaining Age Warrior status, we read they are Doomed to [Early] Disability because of the lifestyle choices they’ve made. We read they’ll be a burden on the healthcare system and on younger generations. There’s talk of a need to ration health care and for panels to decide when certain treatments will no longer be available because of one’s advanced age.
If marketing strategist, consultant and author Brent Green is correct, Baby Boomers are baaaack … as a positive economic force.
“Lockstep with Boomer aging, established industries are about to grow exponentially, and new wealth will be created by enterprises yet to be conceived.” Green has suggested a new name for Boomers, Generation Reinvention, and predicts this generation “will answer unrequited dreams notated on countless bucket lists. Travel and tourism-related expenditures will grow dramatically. Thousands of entrepreneurial businesses will emerge.”
How about you? Have you reinvented yourself in any way? Are you taking on new adventures and learning new things? What’s on your bucket list? We’d love to hear.
