This is big (skin anti-aging) news!
Olay Pro-X outperformed prescription Renova (2% tretinoin in a moisturizing base) in an eight-week clinical trial involving 196 women. The study was reported in The British Journal of Dermatology Monday, February 15, 2010.
The volunteers, aged 40 to 65 with moderate to moderately severe eye area wrinkles, were randomly assigned to either the Pro-X or Renova regimen.
The Pro-X group used Pro-X Repair Lotion with SPF 30 in the morning, Pro-X Wrinkle Smoothing Cream in the evening and Pro-X Deep Wrinkle Treatment a.m. and p.m.
The Renova group used an SPF 30 lotion daily followed by Renova every other day for two weeks and then every day for the remaining six weeks.
High resolution digital images, taken before and after, were used to analyze reduction in eye area lines and wrinkles. Fifty-eight percent of the Olay group showed significant reduction in length and depth of periorbital lines; while forty-one percent of the Renova group did.
Fifty of the volunteers had been pre-selected at the start to continue with the protocol for another 16 weeks. As luck would have it, by the end of phase one the 25 pre-selected Olay participants underperformed their cohort group of 99 while the 25 pre-selected Renova participants outperformed their cohort.
In other words, the Renova group had a bit of a head start going into the second phase of the study. At the end of the additional 16 weeks both groups had continued to improve and ended up with similar results. So the underperforming Olay group had actually caught up to the outperforming Renova group.
That’s pretty terrific news for us Age Warriors for several reasons: we don’t need a prescription to buy Olay Pro-X; there is no irritation with Olay Pro-X as many people experience with Renova; Olay Pro-X is moisturizing and supports the skin’s intercellular matrix while Renova is drying; Olay’s SPF 30 means we don’t need to apply a separate facial sunscreen product; and ounce for ounce, Pro-X costs quite a bit less than Renova.
Tomorrow I’ll tell you how to buy the Pro-X treatment regimen for $26 an ounce!
