I have an anti-aging insider tip for you today.
“Cosmetics Cop” Paula Begoun recently sent out an editorial Beauty Bulletin bemoaning the fact that cosmetic companies continue to use photo retouching to misrepresent the results one can expect from their anti-wrinkle products. She asked us to share her comments with our friends. Since you’re all my friends here it is ;-)
Paula says, “This kind of retouching shows up on thousands of models and celebrities every year who appear in fashion magazines or advertisements. What we need to think about is, how do we stop ourselves from being misled by this type of marketing shenanigans? Perhaps seeing it this blatantly is a wake up call we all need to see up close and personal.”
A while back I wrote about a possible Trend in Anti-Aging Advertising. Specialty chemicals company, Cognis Group, reported a behavioral study indicating that people are quite convinced by before and after photos. They suggested imaging technologies already available be used to present honest before and after photo ads.
Until marketers take that advice and honestly present product result images, you can find un-retouched before and after images for many anti-aging ingredients yourself.
Here’s my insider tip for you: search for the ingredient manufacturer’s product brochure. Say you want to see results for the trademarked ingredient Eyeliss. Do an Internet search for “buy Eyeliss” and variations like “developer of …”, “manufacturer of …”, and so on.
In this example, “Eyeliss PDF” brought up the information that Eyeliss is manufactured by Sederma. A search on “Sederma Eyeliss” found this page with some pretty impressive before and after shots.
Eyeliss is found in UNT Eye Therapy – Eye Puffiness Treatment.
