[This Want Gorgeous Hair? series started Saturday.]
Finish your shampoo with a lukewarm or cool rinse to close the cuticles and strengthen hair. Always use a conditioner.
Choose a light conditioner like Dove Volume Therapy that won’t weigh your hair down. Apply it from midway up the hairs’ length down to the ends. Just before rinsing, massage the entire head. This will get sufficient conditioner to the roots and help with detangling while not weighing down your do.
If you choose a leave in-conditioner like Nexxus Thickening Leave-In Conditioner (with UVA/UVB protection), combing will distribute a small amount of conditioning power to the roots. Conditioners not only smooth the hair and make it easier to style, but also reduce breakage.
Detangle wet hair with your fingers or a wide tooth comb. Let hair air dry as long as possible before brushing and/or heat styling. Use a natural boar bristle brush like the ION Thermal Ceramic Boar Bristle Brush. Natural bristles are gentler on both hair and scalp and less likely to cause breakage.
Use a heat protectant spray like Tresemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray before turning on the blow dryer or hot rollers.
Cover your hair in the sun or apply a UV sunscreen like L’Oreal EverPure UV Protect Spray (UVA/UVB with Mexoryl).
When you have time (but no more than once a week) treat your hair to a deep conditioning with GHRI (Good Housekeeping Research Institute) top-rated L'Oreal Professionnel Expert Serie - Age Densiforce Masque.
