Freshen Your Hair Color with Highlights

Highlights and lowlights can really brighten your whole look and take years off your appearance. Done correctly and subtly, highlights frame your face with a halo effect.

Highlights mimic the sun-kissed effect that children’s hair takes on after weeks of playing in the summer sun. They add visual appeal, texture and dimension.

A professional can help you select the best colors to highlight your natural hue and enhance your base hair color. Here are some basics you should know beforehand.

If your base color is blonde, choose:
• two lighter blonde shades; or
• a darker light copper with a lighter blonde than your base; or
• a darker hazelnut brown with a lighter blonde.

If your base color is brown, choose:
• two lighter browns; or
• a lighter brown with a chestnut blonde; or
• a chestnut blonde with a lighter blonde.

If your base color is red, choose:
• two lighter coppery tones; or
• a lighter copper with a beige blonde.

If your base color is black, choose:
• two tones of brown; or
• a dark strawberry reddish brown; or
• a dark cherry reddish brown.
