Habit 7 of Chronically Fit People: Find the Balance

[This takeoff on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People began April 10 where you’ll find the complete list of The 7 Habits of Chronically Fit People.]

Today we reach the last of The 7 Habits of Chronically Fit People. I have to tell you, I’m kind of sad to see it end. However all the lessons will remain on this blog. So you can go back and review as needed.

Stephen Covey’s # 7 Habit of Highly Effective People is to “Sharpen the Saw”.

My #7 Habit of Chronically Fit People is to “Find the Balance”.

Covey’s 7th habit means to take time for personal renewal and maintain a balance of your physical, mental, social/emotional, and spiritual dimensions – to keep fine tuning your program.

My 7th habit is very similar. It’s about constantly seeking a balance for maximum physical fitness – recognizing that the fulcrum shifts as you age. As you advance in age, your physical machine shows the wear and tear of all the decades it has given you.

Your program has to be age-appropriate and take any past injuries or degenerative conditions into account. So be sure you have your doctor’s help with that. The program you started on last week is not fixed in stone. Remember – the fulcrum will continue to shift; but you can slow that shift significantly.

Habit #7 means that after one month, you get to reexamine what is working for you and what is not. You get to re-prioritize as necessary.

Tomorrow we'll wrap up this series on The 7 Habits of Chronically Fit People.
