I haven't written about power foods in a while. Then I saw an article written specifically with women in mind at WebMD.
I thought that was a nice twist; so took a look to see if it included anything new that Ageless Beauties should know about.
WebMD surveyed a panel of experts including nutritionist Elisabeth Somer, the author of
Age-proof Your Body: Your Complete Guide to Lifelong Vitality and Tara Miller, MS, RD, Program Manager for the Center for Corporate Wellness at NYU Medical Center.
Here is their list of the 6 Superfoods Every Women Needs:
1.Low-fat yogurt – three to five servings a week
2.Fatty fish like salmon, sardines, and mackerel – two to three servings a week
3.Beans – three to four servings a week
4.Tomatoes (or watermelon, red grapefruit, red navel oranges) – three to five servings a week
5.Vitamin D fortified low fat milk or orange juice – 400 IUs daily
6.Berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, cranberries) – three to five servings a week
Nothing new here except the emphasis on Vitamin D; but I like the simple serving recommendations. The ones that are given by the day can be a bit daunting - like five to nine servings of fruit and veggies. Whoa!
What could be simpler? While these foods won’t cover all a woman's nutrient needs, incorporating them into your diet as suggested by the experts can help give you a wide range of protection.
