The last time Consumer Reports (CR) rated anti-aging skin care products, the article incited a media firestorm.
Reading all the mis-information exploding across the Internet, I wrote a lengthy rebuttal titled What Consumer Reports Really Said about Skin Care Products.
Just a month and a half ago, CR did a similar article on Anti-Wrinkle Face Serums. It was subtitled “Tests show inflated claims and limited results”.
So why has it taken me a month and a half to comment? And why was the media reaction barely a whisper?
Because the report and study done by CR:
• Were a big ho-hum; except for
• One conclusion not many would dare to point out.
Why the CR Report was a Big Ho-Hum
Ageless Beauty has only tested/reviewed one of the nine serums which CR chose for their study.
In other words, most of the anti-aging products CR selected simply have not shown up on the anti-aging product radar screen for me or for any of my readers who write requesting reviews of specific anti-aging products that are getting a lot of buzz.
CR tested the following anti-aging serums. They are listed in the order CR ranked them from Slightly More Effective to Average to Slightly Less Effective).
1. DermaSilk 5 Minute Face Lift
2. Neutrogena Ageless Intensives Deep Wrinkle
3. LancĂ´me Paris High Resolution Collaser 5X Intense Collagen Anti-Wrinkle
4. Vichy Liftactivpro [C+]
5. Perlabella Retinol Face
6. Philosophy Booster Serum
7. Olay Regenerist Advanced Anti-Aging Regenerating, Fragrance-Free
8. Boots No. 7 Protect and Perfect Intense Beauty
9. Burt’s Bees Naturally Ageless Intensive Repairing
CR’s One Bold Conclusion: “Natural Didn’t Cut It”
Note that the only so-called “all-natural” product in the list, Burt’s Bees Naturally Ageless Intensive Repairing, came in dead last for effectiveness despite the fact that it has the third highest per-ounce cost.
I’ve long advised my readers to consider the efficacy and safety of each ingredient rather than the somewhat vague distinction between natural and synthetic. Read Are Natural Ingredients Inherently Better?
