Deciphering Anti-Aging Product Marketspeak

Sun Damage
Do you have any reviews on eb5 skincare? I just started using their facial cream after I received a free sample and like the product so far.

=============================================

Hi Sharon,

I took a look at Pharmacist Heldfond’s eb5 Facial Cream and really wasn’t satisfied with what I found.

According to the website, “eb5 delivers rejuvenation remedies including Vitamins C, B5 and E in a patented synergistic base which allows the skin to quickly absorb them for dramatic results. eb5 includes antioxidants which stimulate collagen production while neutralizing free radicals and reducing inflammation. Vitamin E helps protect the skin from the sun and improves the level of moisture in the skin, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. And Vitamin B5 reduces the signs of photo aging – wrinkles, spots and uneven skin tone.”

The ingredient list on the website may be incomplete since it doesn’t specifically say “Ingredients”, but rather “eb5 Facial Cream contains …”.

That said:
• There is no Vitamin C in the list;
• I’ve never read that any antioxidant stimulates collagen production;
• Vitamin E helps protect the skin from the sun only in the sense that it is a powerful topical antioxidant – so be sure to use sunscreen under the eb5; and
• I find NO research in support of the claims made for Vitamin B5.

My advice – enjoy your free sample as long as you supplement with sunscreen. The cream is very affordable (about $10 an ounce) if you just want a light moisturizer. For anti-aging skin care though, eb5 is a real lightweight.
