Can Eczema Sufferers Use Anti-Aging Skin Care Products?

[This thread on Anti-Aging Skin Care for Eczema Suffers started yesterday.]

Ceramide Rich Kinerase ProTypically someone with eczema should look for skin creams, lotions and creamy cleansers that have fewer ingredients rather than more. Avoid known skin irritants such as fragrances, essential oils, synthetic preservatives and the drying forms of alcohol. I would also suggest avoiding nano-encapsulated ingredients since they may penetrate deeper than intended with unknown systemic effects.

Matis Paris, which you’ve been using, doesn’t fit the bill for someone with severe active eczema. Its ingredient lists are fairly long and contain many of the no-no’s I just mentioned. So either your skin is not as reactive as it once was; or you’re placing it in harm’s way and risking a flare.

For maximum and safe moisturizing, look for emollient based creams containing petroleum, petroleum jelly, glycerin, mineral oil, ceramides or silicones like dimethicone to replace your skin’s natural oils and improve its barrier function. Ceramides have been specifically shown to help treat eczema.

Include the best antioxidant cocktail you can find to protect your thin skin from free radical aggressors. Alpha hydroxy acids are not only anti-aging but also help exfoliate the dry scaly skin of eczema. However AHAs should not be used on open lesions.
