[This report on the Relaunch of Arbonne’s RE9 line started Tuesday.]
Advanced Restorative Day Crème SPF 20 has broad spectrum sun protection since in includes Zinc Oxide to block UVA rays. The SPF 20 is nice but don’t rely on that for your UVB protection. Unless you really slather the cream on, you’re probably only getting SPF 8 to 10.
If you’re a “natural girl”, you’ll probably like this formula since the first half of the ingredient list is almost entirely comprised of plant products in a silky silicone base. I’m surprised however that Arbonne continues to include a high concentration of Orange Peel Oil in RE9 (I assume for its pleasant citrus aroma).
Limonene is the main component of Orange Oil. Limonene dissolves protective skin oils, plus its oxidation products are skin irritants to many and cause contact dermatitis in 3% of the population.
Extra sun protection is especially important with this cream because it contains Hypericum Perforatum Extract (St. John’s Wort) which causes increased sensitivity to sunlight. St. John’s Wort is also a skin irritant and can cause skin rashes.
The algae extract, Laminaria Digitata (Horsetail Kelp), is commonly used for skin tightening and smoothing in cellulite treatment creams and lotions.
The cream contains an excellent antioxidant cocktail of:
• Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A),
• Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E),
• Tocopherol (Vitamin E),
• Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (C), and
• Thioctic Acid (Alpha Lipoic Acid).
Unfortunately, the most exciting anti-aging ingredients (i.e., those most likely to “amplify collagen and diminish wrinkles”), Palmitoyl Oligopeptide and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, are too far down the list to have much benefit.
