Can Glasses Contribute to Dark Eye Circles?

[Ellen’s letter appeared yesterday.]

True Radiance Lineless EyesHi Ellen,

Because it includes
Regu-Age, I would recommend True Radiance for your dark eye circles over Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Eye. I love Un-Wrinkle Eye for its wrinkle fighting power – as the name suggests.

I think you are onto something in suggesting that pressure from your glasses may be contributing to the circles. I’ve struggled for years to find glasses that don’t irritate the bridge of my nose. During this interim, I’ve developed a very noticeable indentation on the left side of my nose where the nosepiece rests.

No one’s nose is exactly symmetrical. In my case, the constant pressure concentrated on the left side caused a loss of volume. The dent appears darker than the surrounding area because the skin has thinned allowing blood vessels to show through.

Now I buy the lightest weight glasses I can find. I ask for the new softer nose pieces and I spend a lot of time with the optometrist making sure the glasses are optimally fitted to my face. The weight should be spread between the ear pieces and nose pieces. Avoid glasses which rest on the skin below the eyes.

The next time I see my dermatologist, I plan to ask if she can inject a little filler to restore the lost volume on my nose which will also act as a cushion against the nose piece. By the way, sometimes fillers can be used in this way to correct dark under eye circles which are due to thinning skin.

Regards,
Jean
