“Lightning strikes at pigmentation to reveal a luminous, even-toned complexion.”CosMedix Lightning takes a multi-pronged approach to preventing and correcting areas of excess pigmentation. It contains the following lightening and skin tone improving agents:
• Azelaic Acid (available in prescription Finacea) - believed to be toxic to melanocytes (the cells which produce melanin) and to prevent their proliferation;
• Alpha-Arbutin - contains a small amount of Hydroquinone (the most effective skin lightener with the longest track record) - in higher concentrations Hydroquinone is prescribed and used under a doctor’s supervision;
• Lactic Acid (L) - by speeding cell turnover, exfoliants hasten the ascent of excess melanin to the surface where it will slough off;
• Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract - a proven skin lightener; and
• Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil - J & J, the maker of Neutrogena, has done one clinical study which indicates that topical soy has a skin lightening effect.
If you don’t have any reaction to the small amount of Lemon Peel Oil (which is a skin irritant for some), CosMedix Lightning looks like a very good choice to treat uneven pigmentation and age spots.
If Lemon Peel Oil does cause any problems for you, take a look at Murad Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Gel with 2% Hydroquinone and exfoliating Glycolic Acid.
