It’s hard to keep your balance when cruising - in more ways than one!
It took a couple of days to gain my sea legs and be able to walk along the decks without weaving to and fro. In those days, passengers joked with one another, “What – drunk again?”
When I stepped onto terra firma at the first port, I experienced the very same sensation. It was as if my brain was slow to recognize that I no longer had a giant teeter board underfoot.
The other part of maintaining my balance is to stay anywhere close to my normal healthy eating and exercise routines.
I’ve been to the gym just once so far, but do mini-workouts in our cabin. All that dashing around the ports looking for internet connections and then the requisite shopping count as exercise too ;-)
And then there are the buffets …
I’m trying to make healthy choices for the most part. A splurge once in a while is okay. My hubby and I usually share desserts when we do indulge. We’ll see if my reserve holds up.
I must admit that we’ve had a few bon voyage wine or champagne toasts on the little balcony outside our cabin.
It makes me wish I were Meryl Streep in “Defending Your Life” (though I wouldn’t want my dear hubby to be the cowardly Albert Brooks character). How wonderful it would be to joyfully indulge in endless gustatory adventures without guilt or consequences.
I know there will be consequences when I step on the scale next week. In the meantime, I’m joyful. This has been the vacation of a lifetime.
