The Clarisonic Opal Sonic Infusion System is a cute little handheld serum-dispensing device which vibrates more than 125 times a second to drive its anti-aging algae-rich serum deeper into the dermis of the under eye area. That’s much faster than the gentle fingers of the world’s most dexterous aesthetician.
I like the idea of any technique or device that will help anti-aging serums or lotions penetrate further – be it gentle massage, heat, an LED wand or gentle facial vibrator. I use a Baby Quasar LED wand myself.
I was more intrigued about the Clarisonic Opal after reading a review in the September issue of More magazine by Fashion Features Editor Susan Swimmer. She said she went “from a total cynic to the biggest fan of this product” and added “I see a difference – fewer lines and less puffiness”.
Though the effect is temporary, it lasts most of the day and there may be some cumulative benefit. Further, I see no reason that the Opal Infusion device couldn’t be used on other areas of the face and neck as long as the serum is suitable for the skin concerns of the area.
The system includes the Opal Sonic Infuser, a plug-in stand (which holds the Infuser and recharges it when not in use), a replacement applicator tip, and three one-third ounce serum dispenser caps. Three-packs of dispenser cap refills are available for $100.
The way I look at it, the Sonic Infuser itself costs $145 and the serum is $100 an ounce.
If you would pay $145 for an elegantly designed cordless facial vibrator, the only issue is whether the serum is worth $100 an ounce.
Tomorrow I’ll review Clarisonic’s Anti-Aging Sea Serum Dispenser and then the serum itself.
