Review of Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Anti-Aging Serum

Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Intense Anti-Aging Serum When I first reviewed Boots No7 ingredient lists at the time of the line’s product launch, I wasn’t even mildly interested to buy and try Boots No7. I commented, "I looked at all of the No.7 formulas and was disappointed at what I didn’t find."

Here’s my original
Overview of Boots No7.

Then I read that the
Good Housekeeping Research Institute as the Best Anti-Aging Serum for 2010.

I trust Good Housekeeping. The research study which led to the anti-aging awards was extremely well designed; so I can’t dispute the results. I can only express my befuddlement. Here are the ingredients in Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Anti-Aging Serum.

Cyclopentasiloxane, Aqua (Water), Butylene Glycol, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Cyclohexasiloxane, Glycerin, Arabinogalactan, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Magnesium Sulfate, Dimethicone Copolyol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium PCA, Cetyl/PEG/PPG 10/1 Dimethicone, Hexyl Laurate, Polyglyceryl 4 Isostearate, Retinyl Palmitate, Medicago Sativa Extract (Alfalfa), Methylparaben, Propylene Glycol, Lupinus Albus Seed Extract, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Carbomer, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Polysorbate 20, Ginseng (Panax Ginseng) Root Extract, Morus Alba Leaf Extract, Tocopherol, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide

Boots attributes the anti-aging results to “retinyl palmitate, antioxidants, firming peptides and alfalfa extract to reduce the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles by up to 50% in just 4 weeks, the longer you use it the better it works.”

Retinyl Palmitate is 16th out of 31 ingredients. Alfalfa Extract is 17th. These are smack dab in the middle of the ingredient list, so not very highly concentrated.

Forget the “firming peptides”. They’re the 30th and 31st ingredients - dead last. You might just as well walk by a jar of peptide cream for the same anti-aging benefit.

I can only conclude that the anti-aging benefits come from the high concentration of stabilized Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate) which is the 8th ingredient by concentration. Topical Vitamin C does stimulate collagen synthesis.

However there are many other
Serums with High Concentrations of Antioxidants.
